Beat Those Rainy Day Blues!

Waiting for the sun when you’ve got the rainy day blues?   Consider these simple strategies to lift your spirits as we push through to brighter days:

Light Therapy

Despite the gray skies, try to increase your exposure to natural light by opening curtains and spending time outdoors during breaks in the rain. Consider investing in a light therapy lamp to mimic sunlight and boost your mood.

Stay Active

Even though it’s rainy, don’t let the weather keep you from staying active. Bundle up, grab an umbrella and take brisk walks or find indoor exercise options to keep your energy levels up and combat feelings of fatigue. Sometimes being caught in the rain can be fun!

Mindfulness Practices

Take time for mindfulness practices such as meditation or deep breathing exercises to reduce stress and promote relaxation. There are many apps which can help guide you into a relaxed state or open up your favorite streaming service and listen to spa music.   This brings pleasant and non-specific sound into the room which allows you to focus on the present moment and begin to release feelings of sadness.

Social Support

Lean on your support network of friends and family members during this time. Whether it’s virtual gatherings or cozy movie nights, throw on your comfiest outfit and endure the rainy day blues together.

Check off the to-do list

Review what’s on your to-do list and find a great indoor project to tackle.  Not only will doing so keep you busy while the rain is falling, but you will feel the accomplishment of taking something off your list!

That movie you’ve wanted to see

Perhaps it’s time to settle into that one move you have been waiting for a good time to watch.
